After spending Christmas on Feurteventura, we flew to Tenerife for New Year, hired a car and with the help of Dave Gosney's book we went in search of the Blue Chaffinch. Tenerife was much greener than Feurteventura, and our hotel was situated within a Banana Grove. It was also much busier with more traffic, we spent six days exploring the island, we found the Blue Chaffinch at the Las Lajas picnic site at the base of el Teide and Masca Village along with the African species of Blue Tit and the Tenerife species of Great Spotted Woodpecker. On the breakfast terrace at the hotel we found Wild Atlantic Canaries and in the hotel car park the Canary Islands Chiffchaff. Other sites revealed the Canary Island Stonechat, the Tintillion (Canary) Chaffinch and the Canary Islands Goldcrest.
